411: Giving Thanks for Ocean Adventures at Miami Seaquarium

I recently had the chance to walk along the ocean floor, surrounded by gorgeous marine life and to interact and swim with a delightful bottle nosed dolphins- something we’ve longed to do since the first time we watched The Little Mermaid. In fact, the soundtrack played in my head the entire time I was under water. Sing it with me, “Look at this stuff, isn’t it neat…” If you, like me, have longed to be “part of that world,” head to the Miami Seaquarium for two of the most unique experiences of a lifetime.

The Seaquarium Sea Trek is the easiest and most comfortable way to explore underwater wonders. You will be fitted with a state-of-the art underwater helmet which rests on your shoulders and will allow you breathe normally as you walk in zero gravity while surrounded by incredible aquatic life at the bottom of an 18 foot deep, 300,000 gallon Reef Aquarium. You’ll feel like Jacques Cousteau as you come face to face with stingrays, spotted rays, parrot fish, giant grouper, hog fish, eels, a loggerhead turtle, lobsters, barracudas and hundreds of other tropical sea animals in their natural habitat- all while your hair stays perfectly dry in your dive helmet! The journey becomes especially exciting when the guide feeds the sea creatures right before your eyes, as hundreds of species will come within millimeters of you and some may even come in for a hug. (No need to worry- the stingrays’ barbs have been gently clipped- so hug them back!) The Sea Trek provides an unprecedented opportunity to come this close to marine life without the need for SCUBA or snorkeling experience- participants do not even need to know how to swim. If you can walk and breathe air you can enjoy the Sea Trek Reef Encounter. Your guide will take underwater photos of your journey so you may share this unique experience with friends and family.

The Miami Seaquarium boasts two exciting dolphin programs: the Dolphin Encounter and the Dolphin Odyssey. The Dolphin Encounter allows participants an unforgettable experience with some of nature`s friendliest, most intelligent and fun loving mammals. You’ll have the chance to learn about, touch, feed, play, kiss, train and be photographed with these beloved creatures during a shallow water experience.

For an even bigger dolphin adventure, consider participating in the Dolphin Odyssey, a deep water experience where you can enjoy the activities of the Dolphin Encounter but will also get to actually swim in the same tank as the dolphins, watch them perform under water, and, best of all, be treated to a dorsal pull, where you can ride on the dolphin’s back across the pool while holding on to its dorsal fin. You won’t believe the true power of these amazing creatures! For more information visit their website.
