Venezuelan Sculptor in Museum, Corporate and Important Private Collections is Properly Introduced to South Florida
James Mathison’s imposing sculptures are found in museums (MOLAA), corporate and important private collections, parks and other public spaces. The press, curators and experts have paid close attention to his many shows in Paris and Switzerland. His monographs (“one-persons”) have recently taken him to Texas and Chicago. Miami’s Wynwood District will host the landmark exhibit that inspired the newly published book Homo Mensura.
South Florida has had glimpses at the work of James Mathison. His sculptures have been photographed in the local media. Local collectors acquired some of his pieces at Art Miami and Art Palm Beach. The curating team at Ascaso Gallery designed the show to highlight the unique expressive possibilities of a visual poet. “Homo Mensura” is a meditation on the human condition, its fragility, forlornness and fragmentation.
The opening of “Homo Mensura” at Ascaso Gallery offers South Floridians the unique opportunity to meet Mathison. The sculptor will be interviewed in the context of an “artist talk” by Justo S?°nchez, award-winning cultural journalist and art historian. The event will be conducted in Spanish.
