To Do: Events Report: LGBT Events in Miami

While the rest of the country stays bundled and booted up just wishing for the spring sunshine to come and end what USA Today calculated has been the “coldest winter in four years,” we here in sunny Florida are enjoying weather in the mid to upper 80s. Life is good.

And life is soon to be even better for the LGBT community of Miami. As we know, the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area is ranked among America’s most gay and lesbian-friendly zip codes, according to the Huffington Post. And though in some ways, Florida has a long way to go, the nation as a whole is moving in the right direction regarding LGBT rights. As Adam and Eve points out here, we’ve come a long way and with legal movements such as the June 26, 2013 Supreme Court ruling that “declared that it’s unconstitutional, consequently, illegal, for any state in the union to refuse to recognize a same-sex marriage,” the only way is forward.

With all this in mind, let’s take a look at some LGBT events coming up in the Miami area to be out, be proud, and push even harder for equal rights.

Miami Beach Gay Pride Parade

Show your pride this April 11-13 in Miami. For the sixth year running, Miami will play host to a beach party, parade, and festival with more than 125 LGBT-friendly vendors and businesses, celebrities, performances, and activities. This is event is sure to be super fun, inspiring, and filled with camaraderie and gay pride!

Miami Beach Gay Pride Cruise

If the parade is just the beginning for you, take a few vacation days and hop on board for a four-night cruise to the Bahamas about the Norwegian Sky cruise ship for the work week following the parade. From April 14-April 18, keep the party going on board the pride cruise. According to Miami Beach Gay Pride, “The event also represents an opportunity to ‘cruise for a cause’ as a portion of all tickets sold through Source Events will again be donated back to Miami Beach Gay Pride.”

Wallcast at Miami Beach SoundScape

For an evening of free entertainment provided by the New World Symphony, come out on Saturday, April 12, to this free event and soak in the latest in visual and audio technology projected on huge wall thousands of feet tall!

Gay Women’s Gathering

If you’re thinking about starting a family, consider coming out to the LGBT visitor center for “An Evening about Lesbian Pregnancy” on Thursday, April 24 from 7-9 p.m.

With summer looming, the heat is on in Miami and there is plenty planned for the LGBT community this season. From meetings to concerts to cruises to parades, the month of April promises to have something for everyone. And the coming months and years are poised to be some of the most exciting and historical for the LGBT community nationwide. Let’s get out there and show our pride!
