Readers and book lovers have a unique opportunity to add to their collections, knowledge-base and pure pleasure reading materials in November. It is the time for the Annual November Book Sale by the Friends of the North Miami Public Library.
From Friday November 8th through Sunday, November 10th, you can find tremendous bargains and even unexpected little treasures at the North Miami Public Library, 835 N.E. 132 St., North Miami. Open to the public.
This year there will be a preview evening event on Friday, November 8th, where members and prospective-members can preview the huge selection of sale items and make their selections early. Anyone interested in joining the Friends of the North Miami Public Library, annual membership is $5 per person, may do so on Friday evening and be immediately admitted to the pre-sale event.
The public Annual Book Sale hours are Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm, and Sunday from 1 pm to 5 pm.
Hard-cover books can be had bought for $2, $3, or for specialty books a whopping $5! Paperbacks and audio tapes are $1 or less. Magazines range from 10-cents to $1. Music CDs go for $1, Puzzles are 50-cents, videos and DVDs from $1 to $2. Each year there are usually “little treasures” which savvy readers can find amazing bargains — rare books, first editions, autographed copies, collectibles, select objects d’ art and other items.
Readers are asked, to make room for all those new treasurers you are going to find, to go through your collections and make room for the new arrivals. Do you have duplicates of some things, others that you (or your family) has tired of, or just books you have out-grown? Movies, CDs, DVDs, magazines in addition to books are needed, too. Put these in boxes (please!) and bring them INTO the North Miami Public Library lobby any time prior to Friday, November 1st.
The Friends of the North Miami Public Library are funded by book sale events, private donations and an endowment from the Miami Foundation.
The Friends of the North Miami Public Library present programs and community events. A recent Hispanic Heritage Month dramatic presentation by Robert Dawson on Ponce de Leon was a big hit. Other events include a free monthly Science Camp for fifth graders, an adult book club, a free summer kids lunch program, a summer reading program with great prizes such as an I-pad and two Kindles. The Friends of the North Miami Public Library are also the sponsors of the Green Teens, a North Miami-based 4-H Club which took home numerous first, second and special awards at the 2013 Dade County Fair.
