News: Glass: A Modern Masterpiece

The latest tower going up in the South Pointe area of South Beach is an 18 story 10-unit, luxury residential condo that has one unit per floor with 360 degree panoramic views of the ocean, Miami Beach, the bay and downtown Miami.

Glass is being built by the Terra Group and is designed by Architect Rene Gonzalez who, when designing Glass, was influenced by external factors, both ethereal and earthly, including sky, water and vegetation. Often in his work, there’s a deliberate ambiguity between the inside and the outside, bringing elements of each into the other. By intentionally blurring the lines between constructed and innate landscapes, Gonzalez synthesizes elements, making it difficult to discern exactly where their work ends and the ambient surroundings begin.

The New York Times has called him “one of Miami’s most influential young architects, known for the modernist rigor and simplicity of his work but also his imaginative use of materials.”

Gonzalez’ unique past projects include The Alchemist Boutique on Lincoln Road, The lobby of MOCA, The North Shore Bandshell, UNIDAD Community Center and the CIFO Art Museum among a myriad of homes through Dade County.

“It’s really a unique design,’’ Terra Group president and chief operating officer David Martin told the Miami Herald, “we could have put three times as many units on the site. It’s something I don’t think I’ll be able to do again.’’

The Glass tower has a very intriguing design featuring fully finished luxury condo’s located at 120 Ocean Drive, encompassing all the luxury, modern design and life style the southern tip of the beach has to offer. The landscaping will be done by Raymond Jungles.

Unit prices will run around $9 million with a special luxury three-story penthouse selling for $35 million. Prices will average at $2,500 per square foot. Buyers will also be able to customize and personalize their floor plans to make their own unit unique.

The project is slated to break ground in August with a completion date of early 2015 and, according to Martin five of the 10 units have already been reserved.
