Robert Burton, 34, the Miami Beach resident who was arrested in June of last year for beating and strangling one of his prostitutes, the mother of his two children, was sentenced Tuesday. He received a 15 year sentence on the charges of domestic battery by strangulation, deriving support from prostitution, kidnapping and interfering with parental custody.
State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle told the Miami Herald that many of the victims are homegrown runaways.
“It’s very much like domestic violence. It’s control. It’s terror. It’s beating,” she said. “It’s affection — with torture.”
She went on to say that his conviction at trial was the first for Miami-Dade prosecutors’ Human Trafficking Unit.
Burton was a pimp to several women, whom he forced into prostitution. Three of which bore his children all the while plying their trade at the Delano hotel and the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
Burton was pulled over by police after he abducted his 7-year-old son. In the car at the time was the abducted boy and two of Burton’s hookers. According to prosecutors when police asked the boy who the two women in the car were he replied, “Those are my daddy’s hoes,”
