Sherry Roberts released the following statement last week regarding her decision to enter the 2013 race for Miami Beach Commission in Group III – the seat being vacated by Commissioner Michael Gongora, who is running for Mayor.
“I AM IN! I am excited to start this campaign, to meet more of my neighbors and to work with everyone to sustain Miami Beach’s bright future. Only together can we make a difference.”
Roberts ran for Commission in 2009, and won a quarter of the vote in her first campaign. “I’ve learned a lot since that campaign and I’ve remained active in the city and committed to improving the community – serving on a number of City boards and volunteering for many civic groups.”
Roberts has been serving on the Board of Adjustment since 2009 and has been the Chair of the Board of Adjustment since 2011. She chaired the Beach Preservation Committee in 2007 and is serving on the Board of Governors of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce. She is a Guardian Member of SAVE Dade and is a Director of Women’s Exhibit. She is a graduate of the Miami Beach Leadership Academy and the Citizen’s Police Academy. In 2012 The Miami Beach Commission for Women awarded Sherry the prestigious award, A Woman Worth Knowing.
