Profile: Brian Gorman

Founder of Lords South Beach Hotel

Who are you? I’m just your average gay guy.

What do you do in real life? Well, my real life is my very mixed with my work. I try to be an active member of my community and enjoy life along the way.

You are a recent NYC transplant, what do you love about Miami? My favorite thing about Miami is riding my beach cruiser.

And Dislike? What’s not to like?

Why choose South Beach for Lords? South Beach has always meant something to me as a gay man – it was one of the first places I ever felt like part of a community.

What did it take to open the first Gay boutique hotel? A lot of sweat! I focused on finding the right people to work with and asking for help when I needed it.

What statement do you hope to make? Have fun with life and be proud of who you are.

What sets Lords apart besides the obvious? We don’t try to be cool. We encourage people to be themselves, and in doing so, we capture a great vibe.

How has Lords been received? Very well. The Florida community and all of the people who have traveled to Lords have really embraced the concept and the community spirit that Lords embodies.

Any well-known (celeb) names that have stayed with you that you can share? We don’t kiss and tell.

What is one favorite kitschy thing about the hotel that you adore? Our room keys. They’ve got a touch of retro sass.

What is the one thing we should know about you? I love what I do.

What do you do now, that you did not do 5 years ago? I get Botox.

What passion have you had that you have accomplished? This past year I was desperately trying to help an orphanage in Ghana. I organized a group that raised all the money we needed, and now we are halfway done with construction.

If you had to move to a deserted island what 2 items would you take? My MacBook and my dog, Lulu.

Something new that you have just discovered about yourself? I only need three hours of sleep.

What are your guilty pleasures? Pizza.

One luxury that you cannot live without? Coconut water.

Three Words to describe you? Fun, happy, a part of something.

Future Plans? We are currently evaluating other cities for additional Lords locations.
