PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY YOU SHOULD KNOW: Melissa Gorga, Reality Star & Songstress
Who are you?
Melissa Gorga, 32
What do you do in real life?
I am a wife, a mother of three beautiful kids, an aspiring music artist and one of the newest cast members of Bravo’s Real Housewives of New Jersey
What is it like to live your life in front of the world?
Sometimes it is a little strange, but overall I enjoy sharing our life with people. What makes it worth it is when someone comes up to me and tells me about their experiences and how they can relate to us. It’s nice to know that by sharing my personal experiences (good and bad) with them they feel like they are not the only ones going through it.
What would you change about being in front of the cameras?
There is nothing I would change. We are giving you a glimpse into our lives and open you up to our families. Everything you see is real life and sometimes it’s good and sometimes not so much!
How do you deal with the constant rumors and innuendo?
I try to ignore them. I know it comes with the territory and I don’t pay too much attention. You can’t please everyone and I have no intention in trying to.
Tell us about your singing career?
My first song On Display did incredibly well and I’m really happy with the response it’s been getting. It’s really hard to put yourself out there, but I’m excited about the new songs we put together and have been able to do more live performances which have been incredible. It’s hard work, but practice makes perfect and you’ll get to see what else I’ve been working on when Season 4 airs in the spring.
Do you write your own music?
Yes I do and I have a co-writer. I really put a lot of time and effort into the lyrics as they often coincide with what is going on in my life or something that I’m feeling. Writing is a great release for me and one of the best parts of being involved in music. I love it!
What inspires you?
Every day experiences, my family and the people around me. I realize that I have a very blessed life and that my husband and children are the best thing that happened to me. They are truly what inspire me each day.
Where you’ll find me on a Friday night at 10pm?
On the weekends we try to split it up – one night is family night with the kids and one night is date night where Joe and I try to get some alone time or hang out with our friends.
What do you do on your nights off?
On my nights off, it’s very normal. I make dinner for the kids and Joe and I catch up on our favorite TV shows.
Who are your current icons or muses?
I would have to say the people that I admire most are those that have the guts to go after their dreams. When life wasn’t handed to them with a silver spoon, against all odds, they fearlessly aspire to reach their goals.
What books/mags do you have on your bedside table?
I know I’m late to the game, but I just picked up The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo so I can read it before we go see the movie. And I can’t lie there’s usually a celebrity magazine nearby.
What do you do now, that you did not do 5 years ago?
We don’t really do anything different. Joe and I have always said that whatever comes from being on TV, we will always try our hardest to keep things the same.
If you could have lunch with anyone who is famous who would it be?
That’s a hard one. I’ll have to get back to you on that one.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Cotton Candy, wearing sweatpants whenever I don’t have to dress up! And definitely hats. Joe and I have so many hats we need to build a closet for them.
One luxury that you cannot live without?
If you’ve seen my closet, you know there’s no denying that I’m obsessed with designer shoes. Love my Jimmys!
Three words to describe you?
Ambitious, loyal, and energetic.
Gorga and her husband Joe will be hosting New Years 2012 at the Catalina Hotel on Saturday, December 31st at 8pm.
