Profile: Natasha Case

Who are you?

CEO and Co-founder of Coolhaus Ice Cream Sandwiches, a gourmet, architecturally-inspired, mobile ice cream sandwich company!

What do you do in real life?

This of course! Although I was an architect, and my partner Freya was a real estate developer.

What do you like most about what you do?

Watching people enjoy our ice cream sandwich…and eat the edible wrapper of course.

How did you come up with the concept?

The core concept of Farchitecture (Food + Architecture) comes from my work in undergraduate and graduate school about exploring how food can be a medium for exploring design. Coolhaus is one of the first endeavors under the Farchitecture umbrella, and is specifically about making architecture fun and approachable – marketing architects to the masses – with ice cream

How do you come up with your flavors?

Sometimes we are inspired by savory dishes we eat; sometimes we have to create a custom flavor for a client based on certain themes or ingredients. Sometimes we create a punny flavor featuring an architect’s name.

What is your personal favorite?

Double Chocolate cookie + Dirty Mint ice cream = “Mintimalism”

Best selling so far?

Chocolate Chip cookie + Brown Butter Candied Bacon ice cream.

How many trucks do you have right now?

Is Miami a permanent stop?

Mostly—we may shrink a bit in the Summer.

What inspires you?

Working hard and loving what you do. Working with people who are the same way.

What influences you most?

Knowing that when you have something good and you have the energy/resources to make it happen, you have to do everything in your power to push your brand, your staff and colleagues, your product to be the very best it/they can be.

Where you’ll find me on a Friday night at 10pm?

A dinner party.

What do you do now, that you did not do 5 years ago?

Read emails thoroughly.

What books/mags do you have on your bedside table?

Pep Talk, a publication by my life-long friend Sarah Lehrer-Graiwer in LA. Also, I’m almost done with ‘The Art of Fielding,’ which I’ve downloaded on my iPad. Jonathan Franzen is next.

Describe your personal style like a good friend of yours would?

Professional but edgy. Messy hair

One luxury that you cannot live without?

Craft beer.

Three Words to describe you?

Creative, passionate, devoted.

Speak Your Mind
